PINEDALE COMMUNITY THEATRE would like to announce that John Goss has been hired to serve as the guest director/choreographer for the fall production of Roger and Hammerstein's’ The Sound of Music.
John has performed in over 120 separate professional and amateur productions. He began in theatrical career at age 10 as Oliver with Albuquerque's Civic Light Opera Theater. At age 11 he sang with the American Boys Choir representing New Mexico on their European tour. At 13 John was Freidrich in The Sound of Music. John danced early as well taking tap lessons from his mother who was a gifted dancer. He continued working at the Albuquerque Community Theatre appearing in 18 shows and learning an enormous amount as a youngster.
As a teenager John played the lead in The Fantasticks, Bye Bye Birdie, and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. His favorite roles as a young adult include Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Will in Oklahoma and the Dentist in Little Shop of Horrors. He later worked on Holland American Cruiselines performing award winning Broadway reviews on cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean.
John appeared in many productions at Boulder including the role of Matt in The Fantasticks and the priest in Man of La Mancha. Afterwards he was hired to direct, choreograph and perform in an original production for Princes Cruiselines in Denali, Alaska. He was later hired at the Crystal Palace Dinner theater which brought him to Aspen, Colorado in 1999.
Recently John performed as El Gallo in The Fantasticks with the Thunder River Theater Company in Carbondale, Colorado and performed in and choreographed My Fair Lady and Mame with Aspen Community Theater in Aspen, Colorado.
John started directing professionally with production of Pirates of Penzance and Hello Dolly. He was hired to direct high schools students in Basalt, Colorado for their annual musical productions. There he directed Forum, Guys’n Dolls, Bye Bye Birdie, Oklahoma and Little Shop of Horrors.
In total John has directed more than 30 full stage musicals as well as numerous vaudeville reviews. Her recently directed the opera Amahl and the Night Visitors by Menotti, was assistant director for Our Town by Thorton Wilder and directed The Red Herring with the Hudson Reed Ensemble.
One of John’s personal loves is singing in an a cappella Doo– Wop group he created in 2001 called the Altitones. John married his beautiful wife Elise last summer. She is a concert harpist trained in England and performs throughout the western slopes of Colorado. John and Elise live and work in Aspen, Colorado with their loving dog, Bryce.
